This page describes the types of academic literacy supports that the Ambrose Library Team offers. If you don't see something here you think would benefit students or if you have a unique idea, we welcome suggestions and are eager to work with you!
Reach out to patty.neufeldt@ambrose.edu with any questions.
Our instruction sessions expose students to strategies for doing research and the skills for working with research tools in a particular discipline. We can also tailor our content to the research and source requirements of any assignment.
If you would like to book an instruction session for your course, please contact patty.neufeldt@ambrose.edu. We always appreciate advance notice, but please don't hesitate to reach out if a last-minute opportunity presents itself!
Class visits to the library promote student awareness of library resources and provide opportunities for hands-on engagement. It's a great way to showcase specific resources, and the library team is able to pull requested materials, as well as reserve tables or book study rooms for activities in which students are asked to engage with these resources.
Please use this form if you wish to bring your class into the library for an orientation or hands-on activity. Even if you do not require assistance from library staff, we ask that you give us a heads up!
If you are not able to fit library instruction or library visits into your class time, we can develop an instructional video or series of bite-sized tutorials for your course which you can post in Moodle. Videos are based on the content we would normally present in class and/or which you prescribe.
Contact patty.neufeldt@ambrose.edu if you'd like us to create something!
The library has a series of how-to guides to help students navigate and use library resources and tools. Popular examples include Using the Library Catalogue and Technology Basics.
Our series of subject guides for disciplines studied at Ambrose is still in development and currently includes English, History, Psychology, Science, Sociology and Biblical Studies & Theology (Chinese translation).
These guides can lead your students to the most appropriate resources and increase their use. You may post to Moodle any that are pertinent to the courses you teach. Find the complete list of guides here.
Ambrose students can book an appointment for personalized in-depth research assistance. These 30-minute sessions give students the opportunity to work one-on-one with library staff while focusing on a specific assignment. Students can find the booking link on the library's homepage and faculty can embed this link into Moodle or class slides.
