Sage Journals is a database that contains over 1,100 journals that cover a broad variety of disciplines, including:
When you first enter Sage, after logging in, you'll be taken to the home page, which has a basic search bar, advanced search, and gives you the ability to browse journals by discipline either above the search bar, or below it.
By clicking on the Browse by discipline above the search bar, we can select discipline and subject before browing.
When you select advanced search, it opens this page. Next to the advanced search tab is a Citation search tab, which will allow you to search the citation for an article you have already found. Next to that is recent, and saved searches. In order to use the saved searches tab, you will have to sign into your profile.
Highlighted on the left is a tab called Search tips, which will provide a more in depth list of search tips. Underneath the search bar, if you know a specific journal you want to search, you can type out its title and select it from a drop down list.
At the bottom, is the option to select access type. For this search, we will begin with just filling the top field with lament.
This will result in 161,145 results. This is far too many, so you will have to narrow the results down. On the left, you can narrow our results by article type, publication date, subjects, and access type. You are able to save the search, select specific articles to export the citations, and edit the search.
Rather than going back, you can select Edit Search right in the results screen. Selecting this will give you the same screen as advanced search, without the Search tips on the left.
There are three access types in Sage, Open Access, Available Access, and Restricted Access. Open access does not require using a library account, and anyone can access these journal articles. Available access is access that the library, and your account have given you to access the articles. Restricted access means that you cannot access the article due to your subscription. Different libraries have different subscriptions, so access will vary between libraries.
You can narrow our results further by selecting only content I have full access to, and adding into the new, second search line, psalms.
This will give you 1,956 results. On the left, you can see the applied filter for content access. You will want to narrow this down even more, as 1,956 results are still too many to sort through.
From here you can scroll down and select the Anthropology & Archaeology subject from the left bar.
This will result in 141 results, which is better, but still too many. At any point, you can stop and select articles to review. Next you can narrow the date down, by selecting the Publication Date.
You can select the publication years you want the search to begin and end with, in this example we will use 2023-2025. This will result in 24 results, which is much more manageable.
After selecting an article you wish to review, on the search results page, you can see the access type, resource type, and publication date above the title. Before opening it you can also preview the abstract, or download the PDF/EPUB.
After clicking on the title of the article, there will be a banner with the Journal's name at the top, and a link to the journal's home page in Sage. Below the title, you can see the author, volume and issue, and link for the article. Clicking on the author's name, you can learn more about the author, and view their articles, and contact information. Below that, you can view contents of the article, download the PDF/EPUB, cite the article, share, learn about the article, journal, and permissions, as well as the metrics for the article.
On the right of the article, is a list of similar articles, and below that is a list of Sage recommendations.
In order to browse Sage Theological Periodicals, from the home page, you can browse journals by discipline, and select Social Sciences & Humanities as highlighted below.
After clicking on the button, it will lead you to a browse journals page. On the left, you want to go to the drop down for subjects, and select Religion.
After selecting religion, you can now browse the 28 religion journals that Ambrose has access to.
