Online Tools

There are various tools available online that your instructors may recommend that you use for classes, or that may be helpful study tools as well. You may want to check with your instructor about using these tools if they have not directed you to them.

UniProt is a free resource for protein sequence and functional information.

Expasy ProtParam Tool, which provides physical and chemical parameters of proteins such as molecular weight, amino acid composition, atomic composition, estimated half-life, instability index, and more. Enter your own protein sequence or use one found in Swiss-Prot or TrEMBL.

RCSB Protein Data Bank allows exploration, visualization, and analysis of 3D structures from the Protein Data Bank archive and Computed Structure Models from AlphaFold DB and ModelArchive.

Note: The library does not subscribe to these tools so you will not be able to rely on library staff assistance in using them. Most have extensive help resources of their own that we recommend you explore.

Software

There are many software programs available for free or for purchase that you can download, install, and use on your own devices. The below run on MacOS and Windows.

R Project for Statistical Computing provides free software for statistical computing and graphics.

Note: The library does not subscribe to these tools so you will not be able to rely on library staff assistance in using them. Most have extensive help resources of their own that we recommend you explore.
