Student Printer FAQs

1. Where is the student printer?

The library houses the only student printer on campus. You can find it in the middle of the library.

2. How can I print from my own device?

To print wirelessly from your laptop or phone, go to PaperCut (you must be connected to Student Wi-Fi). Refer to these instructions for more information.

3. How can I print from a library computer?

The library has 4 computers that students can use; these are located on desks near the printer. Refer to these instructions for more information.

4. Why is the student printer asking me to log in?

The first time you scan your card at the student printer, you will be asked to log in with your username and password (what you use for Moodle). Afterwards, each time you use the printer, you'll simply be able to scan your card to access your account. If your username and password aren't recognized, contact IT (403-410-2930).

5. How much does it cost to print?

$0.05/page for black and white (a two-sided black and white document will cost $0.10)

$0.16/page for colour (a two-sided colour document will cost $0.32)

6. How do I load money onto my account?

You can load money online through PaperCut, but credit cards are the only accepted payment method. Please note that VISA Debit is not accepted through PaperCut. Follow these instructions to load money onto your printing account.

If you don't have a credit card, you can send an email transfer to accounts@ambrose.edu. Put "Printing" in the memo line of the email transfer. Please note that this balance may take up to 24 hours to show up on your account.

7. How do I print double-sided?

PaperCut only prints single-sided. If you want to print your document double-sided, you will need to use a library computer. Refer to these instructions for more information.

8. How do I print a portion of a document?

PaperCut only prints entire documents. If you want to print just a portion of a larger document, you will need to use a library computer. Refer to these instructions for more information.

9. My document contains colour but I want to print in black and white. How can I do this?

When PaperCut recognizes colour in a document, it will print in colour (and charge you for colour). If you want to print a colour document in black and white, you will need to use a library computer. Refer to these instructions for more information.

10. Why is PaperCut not accepting my Word document?

PaperCut only accepts the following file types: PDF, pdf Picture Files: bmp, dib, gif, jfif, jif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, png, tif, tiff. If you need to print a different file type, you will need to use a library computer. Refer to these instructions for more information. Many file types can be saved as PDFs; refer to these instructions for how to save a Word document as a PDF.

11. Can I use the printer to copy and scan?

Yes, the Student Printer can do both copying and scanning. Copying costs the same as printing ($0.05/page for black and white, $0.16 per page for colour) and scanning to either email or USB is free. Refer to these instructions for more information.
