Ambrose Library Information for Faculty and Lecturers

Book Donations

We welcome book donations from faculty and lecturers that would be valuable and relevant for program support.

However, we don't accept older editions of textbooks or textbooks which are no longer being used in current instruction; once an instructor switches to a newer edition of a textbook, the older editions tend to go unused in the library.

To determine if books other than textbooks could be added to our collection, please send a list of the books' titles and authors to library@ambrose.edu. We will compare this list against the books in our collection and let you know which titles we can accept.

As to what you can do with books we can’t accept, there are unfortunately only a few options, especially for old textbooks. Not many resellers accept old textbooks as they don't tend to see much movement (e.g., Calgary Reads' annual Big Book Sale doesn't accept textbooks). You could consider donating them to a thrift store, if it's worth your trouble dropping them off somewhere!

Another option is recycling/disposal. It can seem unfortunate to recycle books, however, when the information has been updated elsewhere and is no longer current, this is sometimes the best option (and one we utilize in the library!). If the books are paperback, you can simply place them in your office blue bin; however, if they're hardcovers, they will need to be broken down so that their recyclable and non-recyclable portions are appropriately disposed of.
